Cathy McGovern’s Courtyard Transformation
We’ve been spending loads of time at home this year, and as such we’ve been trying our best to find new and exciting ways to enjoy our space—more specifically, our garden. Crown Style Guide Cathy McGovern (@cathymcgovern_carrowlane) has created an incredible backyard oasis using Sadolin products and her creativity! Below, we’ll take a closer look at Cathy’s stunning courtyard, that can be enjoyed regardless of the season!
We’ve always been huge fans of Cathy’s work, and we love the amazing things she’s done with her outdoor spaces (we highly recommend checking out her Instagram to see all of her exciting projects!).
Wooden Trellises: To frame her winter-approved open-air lounge (because it really does look that cosy!), Cathy made DIY trellis and treated the timber surfaces with Sadolin Classic All Purpose Woodstain, in Natural. These trellises create a lovely cordon from the rest of the yard and offer more privacy around the area. Lush greens were added to the wooden flower beds, which line the bottom of the trellises. Adding to the ambiance, Cathy strung festoon lights along the trellises which will help illuminate the garden at night in a lovely and romantic glow—just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean you have to stop the fun!
Pallet Sofas: Always innovative, Cathy converted some ordinary wooden pallets into stylish outdoor sofas using two different shades of Sadolin Superdec Satin. The results, as always, have wowed us! The possibilities are endless when it comes to decorating your pallet—go daring with bright colours, paint stripes for a bold look, or use stencils to design a pretty pattern. Or, if you’re more of a minimalist, you can never go wrong with a classic white, black or neutral. Through our Colourmix service, you can choose from thousands of colours that will be mixed to your desired formula for you in-store.
Accessories: Cathy certainly knows how to make a space special, and has accessorised with pretty patterned pillows, plush blankets (the faux fur additions are particularly seasonal!) and plenty of soft lighting. These blankets will help keep family and friends warm during the chillier nights. Cathy’s also added a sofa mattress to the pallets to create an even comfier seat for those lucky enough to spend time in her serene sanctuary. A large table offers the perfect perch for your morning cuppa tea, afternoon coffee, or evening glass of wine. It’s also a great place to enjoy your meals on nice days. For the cooler months, we recommend adding heaters to your outdoor space so you can stay cosy in lower temperatures.
Like all of Cathy’s projects, we love her outdoor lounge. It’s the ideal space to spend time with the family in the open air, and to host friends and family whenever it’s safe to do so.
