French garden inspiration that’s perfect for spring
With the warmer season upon us, you’ll likely be enjoying your garden as much as possible. From barbecues with friends to al fresco dining with family, your garden will host plenty or soirées this spring. To make sure it’s in tip top shape, we recommend taking a cue from the French.
Just because you may not be able to prance off to Paris or move to Marseille doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the beauty of one of Europe’s finest countries. The following article will discuss how you can incorporate some French flair into your garden.
When you think of the Gardens of Versailles, chances are that manicured lawns and trimmed hedges come to mind. While your garden may not be as sprawling as those at the French palace, it can still look regal by keeping greenery well maintained. Be sure to frequently mow your lawn and trim/shape bushes and trees as needed.

Topiaries are popular fixtures on the French garden scene. These beautifully shaped plants will instantly make your garden look polished and put together. We especially like these when they’re displayed on terraces or used to highlight other points of interest in the garden. Place on either side of your front or back door to offer visitors a royal welcome.
When it comes to your garden furniture, we suggest painting it a beautiful blue. You’ll be able to bring the French Riviera to your home with some gorgeous blue shades. Try our shades Marina or Hudson Bay for the coastal character. Pair these with stripes or ditsy floral patterns (pillows or blankets) for even more French flavor and a comfortable seat in which to sit and enjoy some wine and cheese!
Strolling through the streets of Paris, you’ll see plenty of outdoor dining spots. These seating arrangements overlook the colourful city streets and create a romantic perch from which to observe the locals or enjoy a delicious meal. Create the feeling of Parisian al fresco dining with your own table and chairs in your garden. Painting these a French-inspired colour such as our Bright Blue, Iberis White, or Wisteria Lilac (think Provence!) will look tres magnifique!
An additional accessory you may considered adding to your garden for even more French fabulousness is a water feature or sculpture. These look grandiose as feature pieces in authentic French gardens, and can look classically chic in yours when they’re done right. Ensure your sculpture is to scale. This means, if you have a smaller garden stick with a smaller sculpture or else it will look out of place.
If you’re feeling French (or just want to emulate the French garden style!) the above tips will help get you started in the right direction. For more advice, call into your local Sadolin stockist or visit us on the web.
